There are thousands of online travel websites out there and new ones are springing up like mushrooms. So how to decide which one to use?
You love to travel but still like to keep an eye on your budget? Get a nice deal here and there?
Don’t worry, I got you covered!
I have been travelling all my life and visited over 55 countries across the world. More to come.
I also worked in the travel industry for over 12 years, dealing with many of those travel websites.
So I have created this list of my absolute favourite travel resources. These are the ones that I personally use because they are user-friendly and provide me with best value for money
and best customer service.
This travel resource page is regularly updated to help you plan your next international travel adventure.
The world’s largest online hotel booking site is my first choice, most of the time.
Why I like it – Because of the wide range of accommodation, most up to date and detailed information and – because it is super easy to navigate on the website.
My other favourite hotel booking website: Hotels.com is part of the Expedia network.
Why I like it – Because of their loyalty program “Hotels.com Rewards”: Get a free night for every ten you book! The value of this free night is based on the average price you spent on the 10 nights collected.
Discover and book unique accommodations around the world. Whenever I feel like something else than a normal hotel room (like an apartment, cabin, house boat etc.) I’ll book it via Airbnb.
Why I like it – Because it has the widest range of unique accommodations, is easy to use and gives me great discounts whenever I refer someone to their side (TIP: get your USD 25 discount when you sign up via this link).
One of the biggest and best hotel meta search engines that compares all hotel deals from the best travel sites into one free. Before committing to any booking, I always make a final check here to see if I really got the best deal.
Why I like it – Because it is easy to use, has a great range of filters and converts prices in almost any currency.
FLIGHT BOOKING + TRANSPORTATION
Part of the Momondo group, Cheapflights has recently become one of my favourite flight metasearch engines which compares flight prices from a great range of airlines and online travel agents.
Why I like it – Because it covers a wide range of websites and includes a lot of smaller budget airlines.
Qatar Airways has been one of my favourite airlines for the past years and now the airline has even been named the best airline in the world for 2017. No surprise to me.
Why I like it – Because of their unbeatable prices, best entertainment system and comfort! Also, Doha Airport is a pleasure to connect at (the airline even offers you a free city tour if you have a long transit).
This Dubai based low cost carrier is one of my choices whenever I want to get out of town for a couple of days and not overspend on flights. The airline serves over 95 destinations.
Why I like it – As with any other budget airline, you need to do the math (compare prices, calculate the costs for add’ons such as luggage and seat reservations), but overall you can find great deals for getting from Dubai to many amazing destinations and vice versa.
Uber is a ridesharing app for fast, reliable rides in minutes – day or night. There’s no need to wait for a taxi or bus. It becomes available in more in more countries.
Why I like it – Because in most countries Uber is cheaper than taking a regular taxi. It’s also convenient because you don’t need cash.
Rentalcars.com searches all car rental companies for the best deals. I used them when I rented a car in Oman, New Zealand and the U.S. and the entire experience went smoothly.
Why I like it – Because I get the best prices and attentive customer service. It does the comparison for me, I don’t have to individually search prices on every car rental website.
Known around the world for being the best of the best in long-term travel insurance. They also have very high emergency and health coverage and customized additions for your important and expensive gadgets.
Why I like it – Because they are one of the very few insurance providers who do not require that you have fixed plans to return home, which makes it perfect for long-term travelers.
My favourite website to book tours, activities like cooking classes, sightseeing tours and day trips. I usually only use it in developed countries. In other countries it is often cheaper to book actitivities at the spot and not online.
Why I like it – Because it offers a great range of activities clustered in categories. I like that I can read their reviews and easily pay online.
A global WiFi hotspot that keeps you connected around the world without the worry of roaming fees, unsecured connections or configuring a SIM.
Why I like it – I used it in New Zealand, Australia and Thailand and always had a fast, good connection. Prices start from just USD 8 per day and it’s available in over 100 countries.
NordVPN is an advanced VPN service that ensure safe browsing the internet no matter where in the world you are.
Why I like it – I have been using their VPN since beginning of my gap year and it has always kept my payment info safe. I also unlocked some great hotel and flight deals by using other countries IP address.
