Hostal Piedra Andina – Copacabana
Zona Bella Vista
Overall Rating 4.5/5
Opened in 2016, this family-run hostel is a perfect oasis to relax in Copacabana. Away from the tourist crowds, the Hostal Piedra Andina is located on a hill offering stunning views over Lake Titicana. Warm, personalized serviced along with tastefully decorated private rooms provide guests excellent value for money.
Hostal Piedra Andina is located outside of Copacabana’s city center in a very quiet area. Parts of the hotel are still under construction, however this does not cause any noise or disturbance.
Guests can reach the property either by taxi (BOB 10 per way) or by foot (15 minutes walk) from the city center and harbour.
Since the property is located on a hill, it is recommended to arrive by taxi since it’s a pretty steep walk.
There are no restaurants or shops within close proximity.
Style & Character 5/5
The design of Hostal Piedra Andina combines Mediterranean and Bolivian style. The white painted building reminds a bit of houses found on the Greek islands.
If you look closer you will find a lot of colorful decorations – Bolivian artwork and handicraft dotted along the common areas and the guest rooms, creating a warm and homely atmosphere.
The property offers stunning views over Lake Titicaca, from the common terrace area with hammocks and from the shared balconies of the guestrooms. It’s a perfect setting for watching the sunset.
Service & Facilities 5/5
The owner is very welcoming and does whatever it takes to make his guests feel comfortable.
When checking in, guests will not only be given a detailed explanation of the property, rooms and hostel facilities but also some insider information about Copacabana (what to see, where to eat, etc.).
Even though there are no restaurants and shops nearby, guests are invited to use the common kitchen area and fridge, both accessible 24 hours.
The daily breakfast buffet (included in the rate) is quite extensive for Bolivian standards: eggs, fresh fruits, bread, jam, cereals, juice, tea and coffee. Like in most hostels, it’s a “help yourself” breakfast style, meaning you have to prepare your own eggs and wash your dishes after.
Laundry service costs BOD 10 per kilo.
Free WiFi is available throughout the building, but relatively slow and does cut off sometimes (this is normal throughout Bolivia though).
A big plus is the hot water at the property, which very hard to find in Bolivia!
Room category booked: (Standard Single Room)
The rooms are very spacious, spotlessly clean and feature comfortable king beds, a side table and offer either garden or sea view.
During the colder months guests can use the electric heater that is available in each room.
Be aware that Standard Single Rooms do not come with a private bathroom. All other room types offer private bathrooms.
Using the common bathrooms is perfectly fine as they are regularly cleaned and in perfect condition.
Value for money 5/5
Rates are fixed at USD 25 for a double room including breakfast throughout all seasons. This price is in line with other properties of same standard and facilities.
Guests might be able to find private rooms at slightly lower rates, closer to the city center, however the online reviews from other guests for those properties are not very good.
Overall, excellent value for money, Hostal Piedra Andina can definitely be considered as a ‘upper class hostel’.
Who is this accommodation for?
Traveler who look for a quiet place to relax for a few days away from the tourist crowds. Since the hostel offers only private rooms (no dormitories), it is a great choice for everyone travelling on a budget but still wanting some privacy and comfort.
