Overall Rating 4.5/5
These retro style caravans and cabins set within two former factory halls are a unique stay experience. Located in Berlin’s trendy Kreuzkölln district, right next to the metro station Hermannplatz, Hüttenpalast is great base for exploring the capital, whilst enjoying personalized hospitality by the friendly host.
Huettenpalast is situated in a quiet residential side street, 3 minutes walking distance from the metro station Hermannplatz. From there you are just a few stops away from the heart of the city, Alexanderplatz with its iconic TV tower.
Famous attractions such as the Brandenburger Gate, the Museum Island and the Potsdamer Platz with the Mall of Berlin can be reached within 20 minutes.
Everything you need – bars, restaurants, supermarkets and pharmacies are only a 5 minutes walk away from the accommodation.
Style & Character 5/5
The former factory halls have been beautifully designed and decorated in warm colors, with wooden furniture, plants and soft lights, giving a feeling of a cosy living room area.
Each trailer has its own retro design and own little outside area, individually designed with a table and a comfy place to sit.
The property also offers a few guestrooms with private bathrooms and with modern essential furnishings.
In the main house just across the garden, you will find the reception and a cafe (place where the breakfast is being served) which has been been designed in warm colors with dark wooden furniture, also giving a feeling of being home away from home.
The outdoor seating area in the courtyard has got colorful garden furniture and plants, creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Service & Facilities 4/5
The facilities are comparable with a hostel; shared washrooms with showers and a common garden area.
The host is adding some nice extras such as board games, complimentary water dispenser, bike rental and kettle upon request.
The service is excellent and really personalized. When checking in, the host will give you a detailed explanation of all facilities and the camper and you will also get some insider tips of the area.
A great breakfast buffet with high quality food items is available in the mornings in the main building and the EUR 9,50 per person are absolutely worth it.
If you don’t feel like having a big breakfast, there is free coffee, apples and mini croissant available in the factory house, which is a nice touch.
Free WiFi is available throughout the building. There are some issues with the main internet connection, however there is an alternative access which works perfectly well.
Room category booked: Caravan Standard category)
The total inventory only consists of 18 units, which avails the personalized service and creates the homely atmosphere.
All caravans and campers are located within the factory halls.
The campers are very small and equipped only with the basics, but that’s the nature of camping. Just be prepared. Tall people might have difficulties moving within the camper.
You will find a bed and depending on the caravan, a small seating area. Towels are provided. No TV, telephone, air conditioning or individual controlled heating.
If you have a light sleep, I’d recommend bringing some earplugs, you can literally hear every word or cough from your neighbors. The walls of the camper are as thin as paper, but again,
this is camping.
The adjoining shared washrooms provide showers with soap and hairdryers.
Everything is perfectly clean and well maintained, the accommodation as well as the washroom facilities.
Value for money 5/5
Rates start from USD 74 during low season and USD 120 during high season. If you compare prices and facilities with other hostels, Hüttenpalast is definitely on the higher site. You pay for the unique design, the experience of indoor camping and the friendly personalized service. Overall absolutely worth the money.
